Frequently asked questions

What is a Google Shopping feed?

A Google Shopping feed is a structured data file — typically XML or CSV — that lists all the products you want to advertise on Google. Each row describes one product: its title, description, price, image, category, GTIN, and dozens of other attributes. Google Merchant Center uses this file to create and update your Shopping ads automatically. The quality of your feed directly determines whether your products appear in relevant searches and how competitive your bids can be.

Why does feed quality matter for Shopping ads?

Google uses your product feed to match ads to search queries. A feed with thin titles, missing GTINs, or vague categories gives Google less signal to work with — resulting in fewer impressions, lower Quality Scores, and higher cost-per-click. Feed quality is one of the highest-leverage improvements an e-commerce advertiser can make, yet it is often overlooked in favour of bid adjustments.

What file format does Feed-Analyzer support?

Feed-Analyzer accepts Google Merchant Center XML feed exports. This is the standard format produced when you export your feed from Merchant Center, or generated by most e-commerce platforms including Shopify, WooCommerce, and Magento. The free scan handles files up to 256 MB; the paid full scan supports feeds up to 2 GB, covering catalogues with hundreds of thousands of products.

How is the product score calculated?

Each product is evaluated across nine quality dimensions: required fields, title quality, description quality, product identifiers (GTIN, MPN, brand), categorization, images, variants, shipping, and enhanced fields. Every dimension is scored 0–100 based on Google's Merchant Center best-practice guidelines. The overall product score is a weighted average of these nine dimensions. Products with missing required fields or poor titles are penalized most heavily.

What happens after my free scan?

After your free scan you receive a feed-level summary, the 10 lowest-scoring products, and a list of feed-level issues such as duplicate GTINs or missing required fields. If you want scores and fix suggestions for every product in your catalogue, you can unlock the full report for a one-time fee of €9.99. The full report includes per-product fix suggestions, a CSV and JSON export, and supports catalogues up to 2 GB.

Is my feed data stored after the scan?

For free preview scans, your feed is processed in memory and not stored. For paid full scans, the results are cached for 3 days so you can revisit and share them via your results link — after that they are permanently deleted. Feed-Analyzer never shares your product data with third parties.
